Default Question regarding cam timing

Question for the tech heads, if my head has 12thou off it, how far would I need to advance the cam till its at 0 degrees?

I have no idea, thats why I was asking. I was thinking a 160 000km old engine will have a slightly looser timing chain, and added to the 12 thou off, my cam set at 0 would be a couple of degrees retarded.

To be sure, you'd have to set the cam by its specified lift @ TDC rather than relying on degree marks on the vernier.

Back in the day we used to have EL cabs with timing chains so loose they'd slap against the timing cover at idle
